Description
Reed Scum & Oil Absorbing Sheets — 12 Sheets | 20cm
Achieve the clear, professional-grade broths of a Japanese kitchen with Reed Scum & Oil Absorbing Sheets. Produced by Lion Corporation, these specialized cooking sheets are a staple in Japanese households for making "clear soups" (Osumashi) and healthy stews. Unlike a manual skimmer, these sheets work passively to trap impurities and excess fats, ensuring your dashi, ramen broth, or beef stew is light, clean, and visually stunning.
Key Features
High-Efficiency "Pressure-Bonded" Material — Crafted from a unique non-woven fabric that acts like a magnet for "aku" (bitter foam/scum) and excess surface oils. The fibers are specifically engineered to let liquid pass through while trapping solid and oily impurities.
Passive "Set-and-Forget" Skimming — Simply place a sheet on top of the simmering liquid. As the soup bubbles, the foam and fat naturally migrate to the sheet and stick to its surface, eliminating the need for constant manual skimming.
Large 20cm Diameter — Perfectly sized to fit standard Japanese "Yukihira" pots and medium-sized Western stockpots. The circular shape provides maximum surface coverage for efficient cleaning of the broth.
Heat-Resistant & Non-Leaching — Made from food-safe, heat-resistant fibers that will not break apart, melt, or impart any chemical taste to your food, even during long simmering sessions.
Health-Conscious Cooking — Significantly reduces the calorie and cholesterol content of your meals by lifting away heavy fats and oils that rise to the surface during the cooking process.
Prevention of "Boil-Over" — The presence of the sheet on the surface helps break up large bubbles, reducing the risk of soups boiling over the edge of the pot.
Cross-Slit Design — Often features a center "cross-cut" or perforated slits that allow steam to escape and prevent the sheet from "dancing" or lifting off the liquid's surface.

Usage & Care
Placement: Once your soup or stew reaches a simmer and foam begins to form, lay one sheet flat across the surface of the liquid.
Removal: Once the sheet is saturated with brown foam or yellow oil, use kitchen tongs to lift it out and discard it in the bin. Do not flush these sheets.
Timing: For best results, use at the beginning of the simmering stage when most "aku" (impurities) are released from meats and vegetables.
Safety: Use tongs to handle the sheets, as they will be extremely hot and saturated with boiling liquid.
Disposal: These are single-use, disposable items. Do not attempt to wash or reuse a sheet once it has absorbed fats.
